Just the (plastic free) business!

It’s brilliant to see local businesses getting behind Plastic Free July and entering our competition as well as enabling you to meet the Plastic Free challenge. Posts are being shared about it on the Plastic Free Te Hiku Facebook group (do join!), but to keep things in one place and for those not on Facebook here’s what is happening….

Beachcomber Restaurant with Stefanie Ruscigno have registered for Best Plastic Free Kaitaia Business for July. Stefanie has been busy sourcing these cute re-usable coffee cups which you can purchase next time you pop in for your coffee fix. They are also stocked with paper straws and compostable coffee cups.

The team at Hope Cafe already do an amazing job and they are dedicated to reducing plastic which is a big task for this type of business. They are ready to go with their new stock of eco friendly takeaway containers. Susan Ramsay has sourced containers that are compostable and environmentally friendly. Hope Cafe offer a catering service and deliver beautiful home cooked food for your occasion, they use reusable containers so they don’t have to use cling wrap.

Far North Surf Bros have provided spot prizes for our Kaitāia Kete competition (get caught using one of our Kete around town – there’s a prize for each week in July!), they sell their own reusable coffee cups and will happily fill yours, and they’re jumping online to raise awareness about kai moana.

Te Ahu Cafe are registered for Best Plastic Free Kaitaia Business. Jeremia (cafe manager) has sourced eco friendly takeaway items that are kind to the environment. Jeremia said she loves the convenience of the takeaway items, they are easy when customers are on the go yet are not harmful to our environment. Pop down and show your support, grab a coffee and a snack, kick back and read a book…soak up the vibe of the centre.
